Airtel Users in Maharashtra and Goa will be able to get only 4G and 2G services
   Dec 11, 2019 05:56 PM

Bharti Airtel has recently shut its 3G operations in Maharashtra and Goa telecom circles. The basic plan behind stopping 3G services in this circle is to end the older technology and replace it with the much faster 4G data services in the circle while also keeping 2G along with it. In a press statement, the operator stated that its mobile broadband services will now be available on a high-speed 4G network. Another important point to note is that the operator has not included Mumbai in this particular shutdown of 3G services as Mumbai is a separate telecom circle included in the 22 telecom circles across the country.

Airtel 2G services will be continued in Maharashtra and Goa circle

Even though the leading telecom operator has phased out 3G services in the Maharashtra and Goa circle, it will continue to offer 2G services in the region. In order to serve the needs of feature phone users, the operator stated that it will continue to offer 2G services in the circle. Being a GSM operator, Bharti Airtel is working constantly to become an LTE-only operator. Reliance Jio’s entire subscriber base is using 4G network whereas Airtel’s 40% users are 4G network users, the other share consumed by 2G and 3G users. With the closure of 3G services in circles, more and more Airtel users will now be left with no option than to switch to the much faster 4G network.

To be more specific on the technical part, Airtel has worked on its 2100Mhz band to strengthen its 4G network. It has also deployed L2100 technology along with 4G services. The revamping of 3G network into 4G will boost the network’s capacity and make its availability wider.

According to the telecom operator, the process will improve coverage in buildings like homes, offices, malls, outdoors, etc. In an official statement, Rohit Marwha, the CEO of Maharashtra and Goa, Bharti Airtel, said “The deployment of 4G and re-farming of the 3G spectrum is in line with our national strategy of focusing on serving quality customers with the best-in-class service experience.”

Customer Notification for Upgrade

Airtel has simultaneously informed its 3G customers through notification for an upgrade. The users are asked to upgrade their handsets and SIM cards to avail 4G services from the company. For now the customers who are still on a 3G network will continue to receive access to high-quality voice services through Airtel’s 2G network.

Airtel has also announced the closing down of its 3G network in various circles such as Punjab, Haryana, Kolkata and Kerala. The operator is also determined in closing the 3G network in various other circles. Some of the Airtel subscribers in Hyderabad and Bengaluru have also been complaining about 3G network issues. It is expected that the operator might remove its 3G network coverage in these cities as well.
