   Jan 20, 2016 06:56 PM

With effect 16 January 2016, BSNL has introduced new call rates with 80% reduction, only for its prepaid customers. The new call rates will be relevant to the two STVs (Special Tariff Vouchers) launched by BSNL. These billing plans are designed on per minute and per second basis. To improve its services and add more customers to its base, BSNL has also undertaken various other initiatives.

First STV is on per second basis and costs INR 42. However, the second plan is per minute based and costs INR 88. According to one of the official company statements, STV 42 comes with a validity of 21 days and the call rates for this plan have been reduced to 1 paise/3 second and for local/STD off net calls to 2 paise/3 second. STV 88 on the other hand has a validity of 60 days, and call rate of 10 paise/minute for local/STD on-net calls, and 30 paise/minute for off-net calls.

“Our tariffs are most competitive in the industry having largest network coverage”, said R K Mittal, Director (Consumer Mobility) of BSNL. The company also revealed that earlier it had reduced the call rate by up to 80 per cent for new prepaid mobile customers only. However, now they are offering the same benefits to the existing prepaid mobile users also. “Two new STV have also been introduced as per industry trends. STV 69 with call rates on any net at 1 p/2 sec for 30 days and STV 209 provide call rates on any net @ 1 p/2Sec with extra talk value of INR 25 with validity of 90 days.” said Mittal.

With 157,564 people joining BSNL network and 124,158 leaving it, between July to November 2015, the company has implemented mobile number portability (MNP). By the month of September 2015, BSNL was found to be amongst the top 5 players in terms of new subscriber addition during the month. A count of 79.6 milion subscribers was recorded in this month.
