DishTV and Airtel Digital TV Introduce New Channel and Packs
   Jan 04, 2019 04:37 PM

Earlier the DTH operators had not released any new channels or packs which left people guessing whether these operators would further resist the new mandate charted out by the industry regulator. Recently, Dish TV and Airtel Digital TV who are two of the biggest DTH operators of India, have launched new channel prices thereby becoming one of the operators who have complied by the new TRAI tariff regime.

New Channel Pricing and Packs by Dish TV

Dish TV is the first DTH operator to have been in the news for publishing channels pricing which is similar to what Star and Zee Entertainment have listed. Subscribers who were expecting a discounted price over MRPs listed by the channel owners will be disappointed by this. The DTH operator has listed 27 packs from Sony priced between INR 12 and INR 90 per month. Besides this there are 50 packs of TV18, priced at INR 8 and INR 50 range. Additionally there are 27 packs from Zee, 13 packages from Sun TV and 58 packages from Star India.

Previously channel owners would restrict DTH operators and subscribers from making their own channel packs. However under the new TRAI regime, subscribers will be able to choose each channel in their base pack of 100 channels without the billing being affected.

Airtel Digital TV lists Individual Channel Prices

Airtel Digital TV has also listed new channel pricing. However, the operator has not revealed any information about prices of its channel packs or add-ons. Some of the channels have witnessed major corrections overnight as the new regime limits the max cost of channels to the MRP listed by the channel owner. Compared to Airtel’s charges of Rs. 65 for channels like Star Sports and Ten Sports, after the latest update the operator will be charging somewhere between Rs. 20-22 per month. Airtel Digital also looks forward to include newly formed packs released by Star Value, Sony Happy India and other broadcasters.
