Idea Introduces Free Incoming Calls on Domestic Roaming |

Recently Idea Cellular Announced the release of international roaming Idea mobile recharge packs that will have free incoming calls on domestic roaming. According to the telecom operator, these packs would prevent “bill shocks” to users traveling abroad.
Idea roaming recharge offer – Competitive Response
Idea’s offer is issued following closely the announcement of Bharti Airtel’s removal of roaming charges for incoming and outgoing calls, data usage and SMSes within India. In response to Reliance Jio’s entry, the larger rivals have now started making these moves. In a late press release by Idea Cellular, it was mentioned that from April 1, 2017, Idea’s 200 million customers will be able to receive free incoming calls while roaming on 2G, 3G and 4G networks across 400,000 towns and villages in the country. “Idea customers will be able to make outgoing calls, SMS freely at affordable rates while roaming anywhere in India” further said the report.
Idea prepaid recharge – Roaming offer
Idea will not be charging anything extra on roaming within India on the mobile data tariffs and data pack benefits of home circle. The free incoming call facility will be offered to both prepaid as well as postpaid customers. Idea is offering international roaming packs with free bundled usage of up to 400 outgoing minutes, 100 SMSes per day, 3GB bundled data and unlimited incoming calls for INR 2,499 for Asia and INR 5,999 for Europe with 30 days of validity. “These international roaming packs also come bundled with free 1GB/2GB/3GB data and overage charges as low as Rs. 3 per MB to avoid bill shock to traveling customers” added an official.
The Chief Marketing Officer of Idea Cellular, Sashi Shankar said that the company can enable more than 200 million customers who are roaming within the country, to use their mobile phones freely without worrying about roaming charges.
Bharti Airtel had already removed domestic roaming charges on calls and data and announced the cut down of international call rates by up to 90 percent to as low as INR 3 per minute and data charges to INR 3 per MB. In a press statement it was also stated that the move will lead to “death of National Roaming” from April 1.
