Reliance Communications – Expansion through Merger with Aircel
Reliance Communications is planning a merger of its wireless business with Aircel, and has projected an estimated $1 billion (approximately INR 6,684 crores) as equity which will be raised from outside investors by the merged entity for expenses towards the mobile spectrum and relevant expansion. During a recent announcement of the deal, it was also mentioned that Reliance Communications and Aircel will be having stakes of 50 percent each in the new company and it is expected that this newly formed joint venture will be India’s third biggest operator by number of subscribers.
According to some executives of Reliance Communications, it is said that for certain mobile spectrum held by Reliance Communications, the new company might have to pay additional fees to the Government. About raising funds, Pundit Garg, President at Reliance Communications, mentioned that they’ve received enough interest from financial investors in the merged company.
