Reliance Jio Introduces WiFi Calling Service
   Jan 14, 2020 05:47 PM

Reliance Jio has recently launched its Wi-Fi calling service which makes voice and video calling on Wi-Fi network possible. Jio has been testing it for the past few months and has finally decided to release its Wi-Fi calling service for voice as well as video calls. The telecom operator has plans to roll out the service in a phased manner by January 16. The company has mentioned that its Wi-Fi calling service is supported by more than 15 handset models. Airtel on the other hand had released its Wi-Fi calling service which was limited to a few major handset models that were offered by companies such as Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, and Xiaomi.

Jio users who are currently on an active plan can avail their Wi-Fi calling service for making voice calls through a Wi-Fi network. With the new service callers will be able to make not just voice calls but also video calls. Furthermore, the users will be able to avail this service at no additional cost.
According to the operator, then new service will be available even in areas where the network availability is low. The company claims that voice and video calls will switch over between VoLTE and Wi-Fi networks. This will prevent any delay of devices to switch to a Wi-Fi network while making calls.

Activating Jio Wi-Fi calling

Users who wish to activate their Wi-Fi calling can connect to a Wi-Fi network first and then visit the Setting menu in their phone. Each handset will be having a Wi-Fi calling or WiFi calls option. The users can enable it.

Even though the telecom operator is claiming to make this service available on 150 handsets, it is not available on all mobile phones. Users can also check the compatibility of their device by visiting the Jio Wi-Fi calling webpage. In the previous month, a large competitor of Jio, Airtel had launched Wi-Fi calling service for its customers in Delhi NCR, making it the first telco to launch Wi-Fi calling in India.  The company is also providing these services in Kolkata and Mumbai.

Jio is now aiming to counter Airtel’s move by announcing PAN-India launch of its Wi-Fi calling services. Wi-Fi calling can provide relief to a lot of user who face serious network issues. However, these users need to connect to an available Wi-Fi network.
