Reliance Jio now Charges Calls to Other Networks at 6 Paise Per Minute
   Oct 16, 2019 02:29 PM

Jio users will now be charged 6 paise per minute for calls made to other operator networks such as Airtel and Vodafone Idea. The telecom operator has also made an arrangement to compensate the same to subscribers through free data. Subscribers can now check their calls made to rival networks and find out the changes applied as per the scheme. The changes are expected to be applicable till January 1, 2020. This regulation is directly concerned with Interconnect Usage Charge (IUC), a nominal amount paid by one operator to another for outgoing calls. As per the revision made by TRAI, there will be no tariff raise for customers in accordance with the current plans.

Jio IUC Packs

Under the new scheme, Jio users will be able to avail free voice calls in case they make calls to Jio networks. They will also get free calling on calls made to landline numbers of Jio network. The operator will also not be charging any extra cost for calls made via applications such as Facetime, Whatsapp, etc. Jio subscribers can also go for IUC Top-Up vouchers that offer free IUC minutes to non-Jio networks with free data starting from 1 GB.

Jio prepaid mobile users can avail the IUC Jio recharge vouchers that start from INR 10 offering 1GB 4G data. The INR 20 voucher offers 249 minutes with 2GB data. Jio’s 50 and 100 IUC prepaid recharge packs offer 656, 1362 IUC minutes with 5GB and 10GB data respectively. According to an announcement made by Jio, until TRAI completely removes IUC, the 6 paise per minute outgoing calls charge for other networks would continue.

A Jio official stated that the telecom operator was hopeful that the IUC charge will be done away with as per the current regulation. “His temporary charge will come to an end by 31 December 2019 and consumers will not have to pay this charge thereafter. In the meanwhile, consumers can continue to enjoy the additional data entitlement in lieu of the IUC top-up vouchers so that there is no effective tariff increase till 31 December 2019” said the official.
