To expand its existing 3G network in Odisha, telecom operator Vodafone recently announced the launch of 3G services in 20 additional cities in the region. This movement will extend the existing network of Vodafone’s 3G presences to total 33 cities.
When compared to other circles, the presence of 3G network in Odisha is lesser in extent. Major players like Reliance and Aircel had a 3G network that was not as wide as required to support high speed data services to operators like Vodafone and Airtel, who won 3G spectrum usage rights in the recently conducted auction. Vodafone will be offering its services by Intra Circle Roaming Agreement or ICRA, with Aircel.
Cities where Vodafone users were already having a 3G facility will now benefit much higher internet speed and faster browsing. Now approximately 18 lakh residents from cities like Chatia, Bhuban, Pipli, Basudevpur, Nilgiri, Nayagarh, Titlagarh, Rairangpur, Gopalpur, Remuna, Badbil, Bolangir, Talcher, Bhawanipatna, Dhenkanal, Bargarh, Angul, Jharsuguda, Baripada, Puri, Jatni, and Khurda, will be able to receive continuous internet connectivity and high speed browsing. 3G roaming services by Vodafone are presently available in towns including Bhadrak, Balasore, Keonjhar, Jaipur town, Jaipur Road, Paradeep, Berhampur, Sambalpur, Rourkela, Cuttack, and Bhubhaneshwar.
Special data offers provided to potential users in these regions by Vodafone include 2GB of 3G data at INR 196/-. The operator also has cheaper special recharge packs costing INR 85, having INR 50 talk- time and 300 MB 3G data.

In the month of January, Vodafone was able to win a subscription of 80,742 new users, by offering cheaper data rates to customers, for their benefit and provision of higher value for money spent. This was a benchmark set as the second best after Airtel’s net addition in the same month. Vodafone has also been adopting various strategies designed to focus on democratizing data, like developing interactive and engagements with customers to educate them about mobile internet usage and the significant value gained therefrom.
